The man Francis hand-picked to be the Prefect for his new order Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Card. Victor Fernandez, has just issued the Vatican’s new rules for discerning supernatural events, such as claims of apparitions and miracles associated with them. The new rules provide for six possible judgments — but none of those allows for a judgment for any event being “supernatural.” The most favorable decision provided by the New Order regarding such an event is merely to declare Nihil obstat - that is, literally, “nothing stands in the way,” with no word of anything as supernatural. The Modernists now fabricate miracles, or waive any need for them, to canonize their new saints.
